Oh award season. The glitz, the glamor, the red carpet. Who hasn’t watched and wondered what it would be like to hear your name called and step up on stage to accept an award in front of your peers? Well, now is your chance at doing just that.

OMA Award Winners recognized during the 2015 Conference in Cleveland

Each year Ohio Museums Association hosts an award dinner to recognize the glamorous, courageous, and entertaining professionals and institutions of our field. The Ohio Museums Association Awards give us all a chance to celebrate the works of our peers. It’s easy to focus only on our own work but the awards program is a time to look beyond it and find out about those around us.

Okay, fine, the award dinner doesn’t include a red carpet lined with paparazzi or couture dresses, but it is a night to remember. For those in attendance, this is a chance to find out what other museums and professionals are doing. It is a time to get inspired by your neighbors. An opportunity to gain confidence in the work that is already being done.

For those who take home an award, it is affirmation of a job well done. It is something to boast about to the media, visitors, and stakeholders. An award can be closure for a short term project or that needed boost for a long term program. And of course, let’s not forget, it is something pretty to look at on your desk.
