The Cleveland Museum of Natural History has announced that Evalyn Gates, Ph.D., has been named executive director and chief executive officer of the institution effective May 17, 2010.

The Massillon Museum will open two exhibitions by Nelly Toll on March 5, 2010 from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. A Holocaust survivor, the author and artist Nelly Toll will be present for the event. Prints of Nelly Zygmunt Toll’s childhood watercolors, Imagining a Better World, will be displayed through April 4. Nelly Toll: Now, the artist’s recent paintings and collages will be exhibited through April 11.  This will be the first exhibit of Toll’s 2009-2010 body of abstract and impressionistic artwork. Whistler: Influences, Friends and the Not-So-Friendly, a new exhibition of prints from the Toledo Museum of Art’s collection, spotlights the work of iconic American artist James Abbott McNeill Whistler and is on view through May 30, 2010. Case Western Reserve University and Western Reserve Historical Society have joined forces to collaborate on a number of library and archival projects to build and enrich the offerings at the two institutions. The institutions piloted a number of small projects in 2010, linking one of the nation’s largest urban history collections at the Historical Society with the digitizing capabilities and knowledge at the research university. The OSU Urban Arts Space is accepting proposals for an exhibition, program, and/or class. They are currently accepting Preliminary Project Proposal application for Winter 2011, Autumn 2012, and Winter 2012. Proposals are due March 30, 2010. The Junior League of Columbus is Requesting Future Partnerships within the Columbus community.  They are accepting proposals from nonprofit community organizations to jointly create a "Quick Impact" project, or advance an existing project, to be held between August-December 2010.  A “Quick Impact” project maximizes volunteer and monetary resources, addresses a need within the Columbus community, occurs as a one-time event, and furthers the Junior League of Columbus’ focus on keeping children safe. You and members of your organization are invited to attend an informational community reception at the Kelton House Museum and Garden March 4, 2010 at 6:30 p.m.  The Junior League of Columbus will overview this year’s easy proposal process, explain the League’s current involvement n the community, and answer questions regarding the application. Bruce Buzbee, creator of the RootsMagic genealogy software, will lead a three-hour workshop at the Rutherford B. Hayes Presidential Center on April 25, 2010 from 1-4 p.m. During his presentation, Buzbee will give an overview of the latest version of his software, demonstrate the use of the program, provide tips and tricks, and answer attendees’ questions. The Greater Columbus Arts Council encourages neighborhood and community groups with recreational, vocational and therapeutic arts activities in all disciplines to apply for funding through the Franklin County Neighborhood Arts Program. VSA Arts is calling for scripts for the 2010 VSA arts Playwright Discovery. This is an opportunity for students grades 6-12 to express themselves through an original one act play, giving voice to a story with a theme of disability using the art of dialogue. The winning playwright will receive $2,000 and a trip to Washington, D.C. to see the play performed. Submissions must be received by April 15, 2010. Job Openings

The McKinley Presidential Library and Museum has a part time opening for Discover World Assistant. Full training will be provided. Duties will include, giving tours, animal care, performing science shows, interacting with visitors, light cleaning, and helping Director of Science with special events. The Dunham Tavern Museum is seeking a part-time (16-20 hours per week) dedicated Museum Administrator for a small historic site. The Museum Administrator reports to the President of the museum’s Board of Trustees. Solid writing and computer skills a must. Knowledge of public relations desirable. College degree and some non-profit experience preferred. As the only staff person, the candidate must be able to multi-task, have excellent organizational skills, flexibility in time commitments, and be a self-starter. Duties include: maintain membership records; promote events; produce bi-monthly newsletter; design simple invitations; organize facility rentals; handle all incoming mail, phone and email inquiries; assist in supporting events and programs; schedule group tours; and update web site. The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum is currently considering applicants for the position of Director of Annual Giving (Job No. 1001).  The Director of Annual Giving reports to the Vice President of Development and is responsible for designing, implementing and managing annual philanthropic fund-raising functions for the Museum.  In particular, this position is responsible for soliciting funds to underwrite the Museum’s general operations and related education programs, as well as identifying potential major donors for project support.

Responsibilities:                             

1.            Develops, plans and implements annual giving strategy to include:

·        Orchestrates broad based annual contributions programs from Cleveland area targeted at individuals, foundations and corporations.

·        Manages and oversees annual fund campaign using personal solicitation, direct mail, and web based fund raising efforts.

·        Leads annual fund-raising and works with staff, members and volunteers to pursue opportunities.

·        Assists manager of foundation relations in drafting of grant proposals for operating and special program support.

·        Provides information to granting agencies and corporations about the Museum and its programs.

·        Establishes relations with Museum members, patrons and donors and creates additional opportunities to receive financial support.

·        Helps membership staff market and grow program.

·        Convert members to annual fund donors.

·        Regularly evaluates and improve donor benefit structure.

2.            Develop Annual Giving plan and implements plan.

·      Assists with membership strategy to complement annual fund activity.

·      Develops annual giving revenue projections and forecasts.

·        Oversees special events for Annual Fund donors.

3.            Supervises and coordinates the activities of annual giving team.

·        Reviews workload, schedules, assignments, and monitors status of on-going projects.

·        Manages and directs the activities of the staff including training and development and performance management.

·        Prepares and monitor operational and staffing budgets.

·      Develops long and short-term division goals.

·        Assigns specific duties and projects, considering individual knowledge and experience.

·        Monitors daily operations, provides direction and assists with completion of work when necessary.

·        Coordinates work activities with other departments.

·        Recommends appropriate action to resolve issues and improve operations.

·        Evaluates performance, provides feedback and conducts performance evaluations as appropriate.

4.            Travels off-site and/or out of state when required.

Duties include but may not be limited to the above.

Job Requirements and Qualifications

·        Bachelor degree required in related field; advanced education preferred.

·        A minimum of five years of professional managerial experience in a responsible development position, preferably in museum, cultural or performing arts institution.

·        Proven record of accomplishments in income production and annual fund growth with extensive knowledge of charitable giving, planning giving and endowments.

·        Proven experience with budgeting and forecasting.  

·        Demonstrated knowledge of direct mail, telemarketing, and web initiatives.

·        Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.

·        Problem solving and decision making skills.

·        Ability to organize and prioritize tasks to meet deadlines.

·        Ability to successfully pass a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum reference check, background investigation and drug screen.

·        Computer Literate:  Microsoft Word; Raiser’s Edge.

Work Schedule:

Ability to work up to 40 hours per week; any shift as assigned, including evenings, weekends and holidays.  Ability to work additional hours as workload demands.  Hours are primarily 8:30 am – 5:30 pm Monday through Friday.
