The Ohio Museums Association is proud to once again be a partner for Statehood Day 2019. We hope you can join us and other history, arts and culture advocates from across Ohio to speak up about the importance of museums in our communities!
Join OMA and other fellow history advocates at the Ohio Statehouse in Columbus for the annual Statehood Day advocacy event on Wednesday, February 27, 2019. The Ohio Museums Association is proud to once again be a partner for Statehood Day 2019.
Meet with your state legislators, network with fellow history professionals and find out which local history organizations are awarded Ohio History Fund grants to support their local, regional and statewide projects, programs and events related to the state’s history.
This year's event features Chief Glenna Wallace, Eastern Shawnee Tribe of Oklahoma as the keynote speaker at lunchtime. Attendees are encouraged to schedule a meeting that morning with their state representative and/or state senator to discuss public policy issues relating to history and historic preservation.
The Ohio History Connection will also announce its 2019 History Fund grant awards, funded through income tax donations from Ohioans. The Ohio History Leadership Award, presented annually to elected officials who have “gone above and beyond” in promoting Ohio history, will also be awarded.
Statehood Day is a joint effort among the Ohio History Connection, Heritage Ohio, the Ohio Academy of History, the Ohio Archaeological Council, the Ohio Local History Alliance, the Ohio Travel Association, the Capitol Square Review and Advisory Board, the Ohio Museums Association, Ohio Humanities, Preservation Ohio, the Ohio Genealogical Society, the Ohio Council for Social Studies, the Ohio Historical Records Advisory Board, and the Society of Ohio Archivists.
