Join OMA for MayDay 2017 - Monday, May 1!

Do One Thing for Disaster Preparedness

Continuing in the tradition established by SAA and Heritage Preservation, the Foundation of the American Institute for Conservation of Historic and Artistic Works (FAIC) encourages libraries, museums, archives, historical societies, and preservation organizations to set aside May 1 to participate in MayDay. This MayDay 2017, OMA is doing our part to help make sure your institution is prepared!

For MayDay, OMA will once again be flooding our social media with posts and tweets sharing disaster preparedness  and recovery resources and tips, details on organizations that are able to help before, during and after a disaster, and other information to help your museum be prepared if the worst happens.

MayDay on May 1 is the perfect time to “do one thing” (or many things) to help prepare your institution for disasters and emergency situations.

It’s easy to take part in MayDay! Previous year’s participants held fire safety sessions, inventoried emergency supply kits, and created and updated disaster plans. These few examples are just the tip of the iceberg — there are so many ways you can participate, and we want to hear what you are doing at your institution! Send an email to [email protected] and tell us what disaster planning efforts you are taking at your museum.

We also encourage you to post your MayDay efforts, ideas and questions on our Facebook wall, or on Twitter. Be sure to follow #MayDayOhio and #MayDay2017 on social media, and use the hashtag for all your MayDay posts – especially on Monday, May 1!
