The Dawes Arboretum seeks an Archivist.

The Dawes Arboretum, a non-profit, public garden committed to enriching lives through the conservation of trees and nature, is seeking a highly motivated and engaging Archivist to join our History team. This is a full-time, year-round position with a pay rate of $15.00 per hour.

Job Responsibilities

  • Inventory and digitize archival collections and create storage locations. Create metadata for scans and upload to the appropriate database.

  • Work in cooperation with the Historian regarding preservation of collections and conservation techniques.

  • Update artifact records using Past Perfect, including photography of objects and object labeling.

  • Lead tours of the Daweswood House Museum and create historic public programs. Attend and participate in Arboretum events.

  • Perform research services for outside researchers and the public; assist visitors with archival requests.

  • Assist in supervising history/archival interns and volunteers. Create volunteer archival projects.


  • Bachelor's degree in library science, archival studies or related field, and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Minimum of two (2) years of demonstrated professional experience in handling and cataloging archival materials.

  • Excellent communication skills (written, verbal and interpersonal).

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.

  • Superior organization and time management skills with a strong attention to detail and accuracy.

  • Demonstrated customer service skills.

  • Ability to work outdoors, weekends and evenings when needed.


Salary Range: $15.00 per hour
