The Ohio History Connection seeks a Project Assistant in the Outreach Division.

The Project Assistant in the Outreach Division reports to the Outreach Division Director. This position provides support to the Division Director as well as to various projects within the division including Ohio History Day, Partnerships (particularly Ohio Local History Alliance, Ohio Council for Social Studies), History Fund, Ohio Historical Markers, and Digital Services (metadata and oral history program). Due to the nature of this position it is imperative that the Project Assistant be extremely organized and have excellent time management skills.

The work is in a fast-paced environment. This position may require overnight travel both in-state and out of state.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Division Administration (25%):

    • Performs general clerical and reception duties including typing correspondence, charts, lists and other documents, files, makes photocopies, orders supplies, filing and record keeping, etc.

    • Schedules and organizes complex activities such as meetings, travel, conferences, and division activities.

    • Types and designs general correspondence, memos, charts, tables, graphs, etc. Proof reads copies for spelling, grammar and layout making appropriate changes. Responsible for accuracy and clarity of final copy.

    • Acts as resource person for staff, volunteers, and general public both in person and on the telephone.

  • Ohio History Day (25%): managing all correspondence and contest registrations; contest preparation; program outreach to schools and local history organization, attendance at National History Day

  • Digital Services (20%): index audio and video oral histories for online access; metadata of digitized collections

  • Partnerships (10%): process and mail all memberships; manage conference registrations

  • History Fund (10%): preparation for annual History Fund review panel; note taking during the review panel, schedule and draft social media posts

  • Ohio Historical Markers (10%): will take their assigned markers from application to dedication, performing the appropriate research and corresponding with marker applicants; schedule and draft social media posts

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment on multiple projects

  • Other duties as assigned.

 Education and Experience: Bachelor’s Degree in an appropriate field with coursework in research skills and methods. Experience working in customer service orientated environment and/or an office environment. One to three years’ work experience in any field.

Work Environment: Normal office environment. Occasional evening or weekend work. Work may be stressful at times.
