Ohio Museums Association’s 2019 Annual Conference Saturday Pre-Conference Tours

Coming to Akron a little early for OMA 2019?
Not able to make it to the full OMA conference but still want a great OMA 2019 experience? Join us Saturday, April 13 for a full day of exploration and fun at four amazing Akron museums!
The day will start at OMA 2019 Conference Headquarters, the Hilton Akron-Fairlawn at 9 a.m. Tour itinerary will include:
9:00 a.m. - Depart the Hilton Akron-Fairlawn
University of Akron – two locations – 9:15 a.m. – 11:00 a.m.
Attendees can explore two locations at the University of Akron. The Emily Davis Gallery will feature the Jennifer Vanderpool exhibit, Untold Stories: The Forgotten Underclass in Rust Belt Urban Renewal. Then, take a behind-the-scenes tour of the Drs. Nicholas and Dorothy Cummings Center for the History of Psychology, focusing on the archives, storage and institute.
Summit County Historical Society – 11:15 a.m. – 12:45 p.m.
Attendees can tour the 1837 Perkins Stone Mansion, one of the finest examples of Greek Revival architecture in Ohio. This historical house museum focuses not only on the lives of the Perkins family, but the history of Akron and Summit County from the city’s founding to the turn of the century.
Akron Zoo – 1:00 p.m. – 4:30 p.m.
At our final stop, attendees will get nose to nose with some of their favorite finned, feathered and furry friends when we visit the Akron Zoo- home to over 700 animals from around the world!
Enjoy lunch on-your-own at the Zoo’s 4-star green and LEED certified Komodo Kingdom Café, or at the many seasonal food stands located throughout the zoo (lunch is not included in tour ticket and is the responsibility of the attendee).
5:00 p.m. - Return to the Hilton Akron-Fairlawn
