Call for Applicants – OMA Accessibility Committee

To serve our mission to connect, educate, empower, and advocate for the entire Ohio museum community, OMA is launching an Accessibility Committee to ensure we are meeting the needs of all of our members and constituents.

If you have experience in the world of museum and event accessibility – we need you!

The Accessibility Committee will be primarily focusing on our 2025 annual conference for the next several months, with the goal to expand the scope of the committee to encompass all areas of OMA’s programming and resources in the future.

The committee term is for one year, and can be renewed after the term is complete. All meetings will be held via zoom, with the expectation of 4-5 meetings throughout the year - at the discretion of the committee chair and to meet the needs of the committee’s task load. Other coordination will take place via email between meetings.

Functions and Goals of the Accessibility Committee

This advisory committee exists to:

  • Assist in evaluating the accessibility of OMA’s event facilities, programs and services
  • Make recommendations for needed improvements
  • Provide guidance in developing access policy and a plan for action
  • Provide guidance and/or assistance with technical issues and potential funding sources to implement access improvements
  • Serve as an access resource and review mechanism, which may include consultation on new programs, policies and services
  • Assist in educating staff, board and volunteers concerning disability services and access issues, which may include presenting information in other OMA-related meetings and to other OMA committees
  • Assist in developing outreach to people in the Ohio museum community to encourage participation in OMA programming and solicit additional feedback
